Hataitai alternative proposals
Have your say on alternative bus stop proposals on Moxham Avenue and Kupe Street.
Following the original consultation, a decision on 6 bus stop changes in Hataitai was deferred for further review. Alternative proposals are now open for feedback before a final decision is made. We are asking for your feedback on the proposed changes below.
Bus stop changes:
- Kupe Street stops 6220 and 7220: Bus stops to be removed
- Moxham Avenue (at Goa Street) stops 6219 and 7219: Bus stops to remain in current location and extended to accommodate longer or additional buses
- Moxham Avenue stops (near Raupo Street) 6218 and 7218: Bus stops to be relocated to the corner of Moxham Ave/Tapiri St and extended to accommodate longer or additional buses.
Parking changes:

Kupe Street stops 6220 and 7220 (bus stops proposed to be removed): Add approximately 5 parking spaces

Moxham Avenue stops (at Goa Street) 6219 and 7219: Remove approximately 4 parking spaces

Moxham Avenue (near Raupo Street) stops 6218 and 7218: Remove approximately 7 parking spaces and add 3 parking spaces.
This consultation will focus only on the 11 deferred bus stops in Hataitai, Kilbirnie and Miramar, not the wider Eastern Bus Corridor improvements that have already been approved.

Stop 6220 – Kupe Street at Hamilton Road
Original proposal: Bus stop to be retained in its current location and extended to accommodate additional or longer buses.
Alternative proposal: Bus stop to be removed. Nearby stops will continue to provide access to bus services.
Explanation for change: With the bus stops at the Moxham/Goa St corner now proposed to remain in place, the Kupe St stops would be better removed as the bus stops near Hamilton Road intersection with SH1 have adequate facility.
Stop 7220 – Kupe Street at Moxham Avenue
Original proposal: Bus stop to be retained in its current location and extended to accommodate additional or longer buses.
Alternative proposal: Bus stop to be removed. Nearby stops will continue to provide access to bus services
Explanation for change: With the bus stops at the Moxham/Goa St corner now proposed to remain in place, the Kupe St stops would be better removed as the bus stops near Hamilton Road intersection with SH1 have adequate facility.
Stop 6219 – Moxham Avenue near Goa Street (outbound), same side as Kilbirnie School
Original proposal: Remove bus stop to improve bus journey efficiency and replace with 2-3 unrestricted parking spaces.
Alternative proposal: Bus stop to remain in its current location. Bus stop to be extended to accommodate additional or longer buses
Explanation for change: Public feedback indicated the current location, existing shelter, and proximity of this stop to the school and to Ruahine Street were critical to residents.
Stop 7219 – Moxham Avenue near Goa Street (inbound)
Original proposal: Remove bus stop to improve bus journey efficiency and replace with 1 unrestricted parking space.
Alternative proposal: Bus stop to remain in its current location. Bus stop to be extended to accommodate additional or longer buses
Explanation for change: Public feedback indicated the current location, existing shelter, and proximity of this stop to the school and to Ruahine Street were critical to residents.
Stop 6218 – Moxham Avenue at Raupo Street (near 87)
Original proposal: Relocate stop slightly to improve spacing, accessibility, and bus operations, with changes to stop length.
Alternative proposal: Bus stop to be relocated closer to Tapiri Street. Bus stop to be extended to accommodate additional or longer buses.
Explanation for change: With the bus stops at the Moxham/Goa St corner now proposed to remain in place, these Moxham/Raupo St corner stops would be better located an equal distance between Goa Street and the Hataitai Village.
Stop 7218 – Moxham Avenue at Raupo Street (near 88)
Original proposal: Bus stop to be retained in its current location and extended to accommodate additional or longer buses.
Alternative proposal: Bus stop to be relocated closer to Tapiri Street. Bus stop to be extended to accommodate additional or longer buses
Explanation for change: With the bus stops at the Moxham/Goa St corner now proposed to remain in place, these Moxham/Raupo St corner stops would be better located an equal distance between Goa Street and the Hataitai Village.

These are the original proposals consulted on in June 2026, including bus stop changes that have now been approved and the original proposals for the 6 Hataitai bus stops currently being consulted on.

Stop 7218 and 6218 - Moxham Avenue at Raupo Street (near number 87) and Moxham Avenue at Raupo Street (near number 88)
Changes for these stops include:
- Retaining stop 7218 and relocating stop 6218 slightly to improve spacing, accessibility, and bus operations.

Stops 7219 and 6219 - Moxham Avenue near Goa Street and Moxham Avenue at Kilbirnie School
Changes for these stops include:
- Removing this pair of stops to improve bus journey efficiency. This will result in 2-3 unrestricted parking spaces being added in front of 115/117 Moxham Ave and 1 in front of 116 Moxham Ave.
Stops 7220 & 6220 - Kupe Street near Hamilton Road
Changes for these stops include:
- Retaining the stops at their current locations, with changes to stop length.

Changes at these stops include:
- Relocating the retaining wall to ensure buses can pull out of lane fully, and a kerb buildout on approach side to slow traffic. Build out at rear of stop 7216. This will require some civil works.
